Defining the Dispute Regarding the Statement of Principles

November 7–8, 2026 Utah County, Utah

All members of the Covenant Christian community are invited to participate in this workshop focused on better understanding the differing perspectives surrounding the Statement of Principles. This is the first in a series of workshops where we will labor together.

The gathering will provide an opportunity to listen, reason together, and practice charitable deliberation among brothers and sisters who may hold different views.

All perspectives are welcome.

Workshop purpose

The primary purpose of this workshop is to identify existing disputes regarding the Statement of Principles, to understand and prioritize them. Then to focus our combined efforts on one issue at a time.

In order to be eligible for the Lord’s part, He has outlined specific steps. This is the first in a series of labors aimed at qualifying for the Lord’s part.

Identify the existing disputes regarding the Statement of Principles.

Listen to differing perspectives so we can understand the disputes and decide which to address first.

Focus our combined efforts on one clearly defined issue at a time.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Success does not require anyone to abandon their convictions, resolve the Statement of Principles controversy, or win. It will look like strengthened relationships, greater understanding of what the Lord values in one another’s hearts, and being able to clearly understand where we disagree.

Only after we understand one another are we prepared to continue the work of precept, reason, and persuasion—and, if a genuine impasse remains, to come before the Lord together and ask for His part.

“Study to learn how to respect your brothers and sisters and to come together by precept, reason, and persuasion, rather than sharply disputing and wrongly condemning each other, causing anger. Take care how you invoke my name. Mankind has been controlled by the adversary through anger and jealousy, which has led to bloodshed and the misery of many souls. Even strong disagreements should not provoke anger, nor to invoke my name in vain as if I had part in your every dispute. Pray together in humility and together meekly present your dispute to me, and if you are contrite before me, I will tell you my part.”

WHAT THE WORKSHOP IS—AND ISN’T

This workshop is

  • A place to sincerely and meekly deliberate, seeking first to understand.
  • A place to be brave and embrace hard conversations.
  • A place to prove to ourselves that we can reason with one another.

This workshop is not

  • A place to accuse others or undo past progress
  • A place to debate in order to win
  • A place for emotional processing alone

Every participant is asked to follow these simple commitments so that strong disagreement can remain charitable and useful for everyone in the room.
